Results from one year survey of birds at Pomorie Lake

Monitoring of birds
28.10.2021
First year of LIFE19 NAT/BG/000804 LIFE for Pomorie Lagoon project has passed. In its framework the Green Balkans NGO team has conducted regular monitoring of birds for establishing a baseline in the protected areas complex. During the survey was collected data on abundance, distribution and seasonal dynamics of bird species (mainly waterbirds), state of habitats and hydrological characteristics of the lagoon.

Summarized results show that within the year our team has made more than 30 visits of the lake recording 119 bird species including two new species for the site – Great knot and Little bustard. Interesting stories “are told” by observed ringed birds of several species – Sandwich and Common terns, Avocet – some of which were ringed as chicks in the local colony by society’s experts more than 10 years ago.

More curious facts and useful data can be found in the report accessible below.

Project LIFE19 NAT/BG/000804 "Conservation of Pomorie Lake coastal lagoon" is implemented by Green Balkans NGO, M-Pomorie Salinas Ltd, Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, and biological station Toud du Valat, France with the support of the financial instrument LIFE of the European Union.
