Rebuttal of the published information from Pomorie Municipality regarding Pomorie Lake Visitor Centre

We learned from local journalists surprisingly that a message was published on the Pomorie Municipality website with a provocative text and title: “Green Balkans” refused to look after the Visitor Centre in Pomorie”. We are left surprised from such statements, because since 01.10.2020 the Centre in Pomorie, which is owned by the Municipality, is managed by the Municipality after an explicit refusal to provide its management to Green Balkans for a period of three years (as we publically and in written form insisted). As a result of the received public support, after numerous demands from our side and with the support of the City Council, our organization achieved only an Agreement for cooperation. According to it, Green Balkans takes the responsibility to train a guide at the Centre, to continue its own educational campaigns, to allow the use of the Pomorie Lake Biodiversity exhibition, while the Municipality agrees to provide one of the Centre rooms for use during the volunteer brigades of maintaining the lake. We managed to achieve this Agreement after significant public media pressure, thanks to Green Balkans supporters, after the Municipality explicitly rejected the previous proposals of Green Balkans – to manage the Centre for a period of three years, to hire a team member who can present the biodiversity of the lake during the summer season. Precisely the public pressure and the support of the city counsellors helped us to keep the exhibition and exposition of the Centre, which was created with public financial funds and by idea of Green Balkans. Now the exhibition is being kept at the Centre, unlike the initial stated wish of the Municipality to be removed. The mayor of Pomorie has never received from us a denial to work together. Since October Green Balkans gave all rights of the Centre to the Municipality with a take-over certificate (signed by the members of the commissions from both sides) and we do not have access to the place and there is no way to give up from it. Even more – to this moment our proposals for discussions haven’t been realized with the director of the History Museum, who is responsible at the moment for the Visitor Centre

Despite the sent unofficially and in the last moment “invitation” for commission at the Visitor Centre, which purpose is not yet known and it was organized in couple of hours, our team from Plovdiv confirmed to the mayor a participation and it will travel for it at the time specified by him – in 10am.
