The official ceremony about the 25th “Pomorie Lake” 2020 nature protection brigade was held with the participation of the Mayor of Pomorie – Ivan Alexiev, a representative of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Bourgas and numerous participants.
The Green Balkans made a partnership proposal to the Pomorie Mayor – Mr. Alexiev for joint management of the Centre in line with his willingness for cooperation expressed with the media during the opening ceremony.
The organization will be responsible for the annual maintenance of the habitats as part of the nature protection brigades’ initiative and will jointly use the exposition at the Centre in return for the opportunity to continue its public activities and free use of the volunteer room for informational and educational activities aimed at raising the citizens awareness of the unique biodiversity of the lake as well as for conservation activities.
The official representative of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water Bourgas – Stanislav Georgiev – Protected Areas Senior Expert took part in the event, he greeted the volunteers and wished them successful work and satisfaction for the good job. The district governor Valcho Cholakov sent an official letter of congratulations because he was not able to attend the event motivating the volunteers to continue their nature protection actions.
A presentation was given on the Green Balkans information activities, the biodiversity of Pomorie Lake and the history of the conservation brigades after the official ceremony.
The mayor had the opportunity to watch some of the protected species on the lake with a field scope after the presentation, sharing his delight of the birds. The Mayor noted that Pomorie Lake is the only place where you can watch both the sunrise and sunset.
We really hope that by accepting our invitation for the nature protection brigade ceremony this year the representatives of the municipality will show their intentions to continue our future cooperation and we expect to get a response to our proposal before September 30.
We would like to remind that Green Balkans have an official extension of the deadline to leave the Visitor Centre until 30.09.2020 but we have expressed our desire to continue the educational and conservation activities there even after the end of the contract.
