“Joint Istranca region protection for sustainable development” project aims to improve the life quality of life by more efficient use of the joint natural resources, to accent on the attractiveness of Istranca region for tourism, to encourage the protection of biodiversity and joint natural resources and to lower the negative impact on the nature.
The project aims to achieve balanced sustainable development built upon the key strengths of the cross-border region. The project strategy was designed in order to respond to particular needs and constraints of the border regions regarding the protection and promotion of Istranca Regionas a natural heritage, as well as increasing awareness about the nature among local people. The project will deliver a comprehensive survey on local people, children and tourists’ knowledge on the forest, the mountain, nature and culture sites in it, protected areas, etc. Needs assessment will be done according to the analysis of the results. Also, the project will lead to a rational and sustainable joint strategy on protecting and promoting the Istranca Forest and to an action plan for the improvement of the legal framework to use as a benchmark for deforestation and soil erosion prevention as a joint tool for prevention of climate change and reducing the human impact on the nature. Moreover ECONET (network for interested people, organizations and institutions for protection of forest, mountain and common natural resources) will be established in order to introduce the public with main project results and outputs, positive effect of project implementation, to be discussed opportunities for further similar actions, for multiplication and sustainability.
The project objectives are to improve the environmental situation in the region and to increase the interest of the local people and visitors to Istranca region.
The planned activities are: Case studies, Introducing conference, “Green activities” in Burgas and Kirklareli districts, Establishment of ECONET and Development of Joint plan for deforestation and soil erosion prevention.
The project duration is 12 months and is implemented by DAYKO - Foundation for Nature Conservation, Turkey in partnership with the "Europe and we" NGO - Pomorie, and "Green Balkans - branch Pomorie."
The project is co-funded by EU through the Bulgaria – Turkey IPA Cross-Border Programme (CCI number 2007CB16IPO008).
