On 10 March group of experts and citizens from Turkey have visited the area of Pomorie Lake. The visit was within project “Preparation and Promotion of the Development Process of the NATURA 2000 European Ecological Network in Strandzha Mountain” CB005.1.12.135, for the Cross-border Cooperation Programme INTERREG-IPA Bulgaria – Turkey 2014-2020 of the EU, implemented by Sakar Nature Park NGO, Levka village and DAYKO NGO, Turkey. The group consisted of representatives of Turkish NGOs, administration and citizens.
Green Balkans NGO’s experts have presented the society’s Long-term conservation program “Pomorie Lake”. Special emphasis was put on the importance and role of Pomorie Lake in the European ecological network NATURA 2000. The saline lagoon is part of two sites – Pomorie SCI and Pomoriysko ezero SPA. Turkish colleagues have been introduced to the pilot for Bulgaria process of development of Integrated Management Plan (IMP) for the protected areas complex: Pomorie Lake protected site; Pomorie Wetland Complex Ramsar site; Pomorie SCI and Pomoriysko ezero SPA. Presented were the adopted approach, short summary of the IMP’s contents, threats, obstacels and challenges for the process; completed actions. Methods and techniques for study and monitoring of habitats and species for the purpose of designation of NATURA 2000 sites and monitoring according EU Directives’ requirements have been also demonstrated.
The group members have demonstrated special interest for the innovative approach with created system for video surveillance of the saline lagoon in the visitor centre that allows except detailed observation of birds in the Southern part of the lake, systematic monitoring for threats and violations in the protected areas complex.
„Video-surveillance of Pomorie Lake“ project has been implemented thanks to the largest corporate social responsibility initiative of Lidl Bulgaria „You and Lidl for a better life" in partnership with Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation and Bulgarian Donors Forum.
