During the past week the procedure for official inclusion of Pomorie Lake Visitor Centre in the BTU’s initiative “Discover Bulgaria - 100 National Tourist Sites” was finalized. The centre is included as site number 6B and will be included with a special field in the new issue of the special booklets where the participants can collect specialized stamps from each site. We expect to receive the official stamp that is being produced by the coordinators of the initiative. Information for the site is already published on the BTU’s official website where tourists can find useful facts for each of the sites included in the initiative:

The movement “Discover Bulgaria - 100 National Tourist Sites” was established on 1966 as an initiative of BTU aiming to attract interest to the most important and significant tourist sites in Bulgaria. These are natural landmarks, museums, cultural and historical sites that are our national relics. More than four decades in a unique way it is contributing to protection of the country and its natural beauties, historical sites and memorials. Currently more than 290 000 people participate in the movement and most of these are young people. Those who have visited all 100 sites and have collected all special stamps in the booklet get a “Golden badge” by BTU. For visiting 50 sites one gets a “Silver badge” and for 25 sites – a “Bronze badge”.
The visitor centre for protection of Pomorie Lake was created in 2010 as a joint initiative of Green Balkans NGO, Ministry of Environment and Water and Pomorie Municipality with funding assured by Global Environment Facility and the World Bank. Situated next to the “Salt Museum”, it is overlooking the southern shore of Pomorie Lake – one of Bulgarian wetlands with international importance listed in the Ramsar Convention’s List of Wetlands of International Importance and is part of the EU ecological network – NATURA 2000. The centre is open all year round and during the recent years has become a favourite place to visit for young and old guests of the Black Sea coast!
