In the first days of June the Visitor Center opened its doors to visitors, and at the last minute came the idea to celebrate the World Environment Day.
The theme of this year's celebration of the Environment Day is Biodiversity, so we decided to tell through a presentation about the bird diversity of Pomorie Lake - part of Natura 2000, the Sandwich Tern Month, but also to have fun with our special Natura 2000 board game, use a microscope and observe birds with binoculars. The Visitor Center hosted the event in compliance with all safety measures on Friday afternoon.
The idea to celebrate the event came at the last minute, since we would not be able to cope alone, with only one day for preparation. That is why we want to mention our volunteers Hrisi, Nadia, Radostin and Ivan, who unreservedly agreed to participate and help organize the Environment Day - Thank you! From the creation of a Facebook event, distribution, communication and invitations to guests, to technical preparation – a laptop, placing the flags, stretching equipment and preparation of materials - everything was done with their assistance! And Nadezhda Stoykova helped us for the photos you will see below - we thank her too!
This is exactly the idea for the "Pomorie Lake" Visitor Center - in addition to being a place where visitors can learn interesting facts about the "Pomorie Lake" protected area, at the same time it should be a center for students to take advantage of the Center location and to enjoy or explore biodiversity, or simply exchange ideas about the place.
Thanks again to all the organizers and participants for the nice day!
Wait for the next events in the Visitor Center!

About Natura 2000
Natura 2000 is the largest coordinated network for nature conservation. More than 30% of the territory of Bulgaria falls within the scope of the network - 120 areas for the protection of wild birds and 234 areas for the protection of natural habitats.
About Pomorie Lake
Pomorie Lake is a natural hypersaline lagoon, located on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, near the town of Pomorie. It is home to over 260 different species of birds, over 30 species of mammals and over 80 species of plants. Since 2007 it has been officially included in the European ecological network Natura 2000.
About the Sandwich Tern
In Bulgaria, the Sandwich Tern nests only on Pomorie and Atanasovsko lakes. Thanks to years of hard work, the population of the species in Pomorie Lake is the largest on the Balkan Peninsula today. Listed as an endangered species and included in the Birds Directive, the Sandwich Tern and its habitats are protected by Natura 2000 ecological network.
